This challenge has been so fun! I loved reading the suggestions that kicked off the challenge, I looked around my house thinking about things as just fabric, but ultimately I just had this vision of using vintage sheets! So I hit the thrift stores, I didn’t find anything that was really speaking to me but then my daughter spotted this unicorn sheet and she HAD to have it! Of course I couldn’t say no because, UNICORNS and RAINBOWS! When I brought it home, this floral fabric designed by Bari J just jumped out and even though it seemed random, I just kept coming back to it. As I started envisioning patterns I decided it would be really fun to line the skirt, especially because the sheet is thin. I pulled out this pink stripe and it was just perfect! When I started cutting the bodice, I wanted to applique a unicorn on it, but then I had this idea to reverse applique it and I’m so glad I took the time to figure out how to make it work! I just love the outcome and so does my daughter!

LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this! From the fussy cut unicorn, to the dress design itself to the flash of the striped fabric on the underside of the skirt.
