I found this beautiful dress at the op shop and immediately thought it would look amazing as a Chanel inspired suit for my 5 year old. I thought the tip in the kick off post to use original details from the item being upcycled was a great idea. I kept the original sleeves in the jacket, just resized them as they had an amazing pleat detail. I also kept the original hem and lining in the dress. The dress I made is the “Pleatie Playsuit by Tadah Patterns”, and i drafted the jacket. Thanks for the great tips and inspiration.

I’d been hoarding, what I thought was, the white sheet of eyelet fabric with a pretty decorative edge. However, it turned out to be a shower curtain! LOL While I was going thru my patterns I came across that Violette Field Threads pattern and thought that eyelet would be a great match! Then I found that pretty light blue gauze with white polkadots on the clearance rack at the store and knew it would make the perfect skirt overlay for the eyelet. This upcycle started as a fat eigth of the Michael Miller print, a yard of the pink to match, and a tunic that I made for myself a while back but didn’t like the way the fabric hung. I’ve been holding onto this Michael Miller fabric for a while unsure what to do with it when this challenge started. I brought it with me to the flea market where I found a ladies tee-shirt and sheer blouse that matched the colors perfectly! I decided to make a shirt and shorts from those 2 tops and the yard of fabric. The 2 shirts into the one I made was a bit of a struggle because the sleeves were transofrmed from traditional sleeves into raglan style. While I was looking at the leftover bits of the FQ I had of Michael Miller fabric I thought that the fussy cut kids would be cut as pockets. It was then that I decided to use them on an apron of sorts. Instead of the traditional apron, this one slips over the head. The red fabric is from a pair of womens pants. The cute print was fussy cut from a fat quarter. What you don’t see in the plastic bags that I also used for this project.
