Elaine Johnson – Project #1

My up-cycle journey began with a chance view on Instagram and a granddaughter who didn’t want me to give away the dresses she had outgrown.  I originally planned to make her a couple of skirts, but the challenge was too tempting.  She couldn’t pick her favorite dress for me to up-cycle so I took on the task of using all of the dresses.  I kept thinking Joseph’s coat of many colors and decided on a dress of many colors.  But how to do it?  I didn’t want a hodge podge dress.  I decided to use a Bargello quilt pattern technique which I modified and used half-blocks so the skirt wouldn’t be too long. I wanted something simple for the bodice so I chose the Evelyn dress by Violetfieldsthreads PDF pattern company.
