2018 Upcycling Challenge

Lorna Parker

This was a fun but challenging upcycle. Unusually the inspiration started from the gorgeous Michael Miller fabric rather than an upcycle find.  I scoured our local charity shops for something that would set it off, and found some linen Capri trousers. I then browsed my pattern library and these awesome dungarees from rabaukowich leapt out at me. One of the inspiration pictures from testing had beautiful piping, so back to the upcycling pile I went to grab a deep purple fitted sheet.  Many metres of piping and a very careful deconstruction of the capris later I had these fab dungarees and couldn’t resist playing with the twig and tale evergreen bonnet to make a granny’s bonnet out of the last scraps. A slow sew, with a satisfying end result that means those Michael Miller flowers are getting the admiration they deserve!
