2018 Upcycling Challenge

Maria Terry

For my submission to the upcycle challenge, I made a fun, summery toucan tank top and a pair of scallop edge shorts. I used the top half of a pair of pajama pants for the shorts. At the store, my daughter loved the toucan fabric so much she actually learned to say the word “toucan,” so I had to get it. Even now, she runs around saying “toucan toucan” when she wears this shirt. The direction of the project came from my daughter needing summer clothes, and the exact shape it took came from the toucan fabric. It’s such a great weight and such a fun fabric that I needed something drapey with a bit of flow and movement that embodied summer.
