Welcome to the Registration Page of the 2019 Upcycling Challenge!
So glad you’re interested in joining the 2019 Upcycling Challenge, we’re super excited to discover YOU and your talent for upcycling! We’re doing things differently this year so let’s go over some questions you might have. Please read carefully before you decide to commit.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT FOR 2019:
1. THE THEME.
The 2019 Theme is: The Upcycling Journey Start to Finish.
This year we want to focus on the upcycling journey start to finish of each contestant. This will allow us to highlight each contestant and learn more about them through social media; particularly Instagram. This means each contestant must be willing to:
- Have a PUBLIC Instagram page (feel free to create a new one just for this challenge if you like)
- Commit to at least 3 Instagram posts/stories sharing their upcycling process every week for the duration of the challenge. Linking to blog posts is encouraged but not required.
- Use the hashtag #CAUpcyclingChallenge2019 in each post, as well as any business product, pattern, or tool you are using from the kits or otherwise. Tagging and using the hashtag will allow sponsors to find you and reshare your posts with their audience. The hashtag will also feed to our Social Feed here for those who prefer to view from our website, or who want to follow the challenge but do have an IG account.
2. UPCYCLING KITS!
Eligible contestants will utilize upcycling kits to create their finished project.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR KITS?
The Challenge is open to participation by all interested persons but only U.S. residents who are 18 years of age or older are eligible for kits. Only those who have kits are eligible compete to win the grand, second, third and weekly prizes.
YOU JUST SAID THE CHALLENGE IS OPEN TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS, SO WHY ARE INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR KITS OR THE GRAND PRIZES?
High shipping rates, custom regulations and the complexities of international laws regarding the nature and prizes of this giveaway make it difficult. BUT don’t be disheartened, International residents and US residents 18 years and older who do not have kits encouraged to share their upcycled makes from July 01-31, 2019 using the hashtag #CAUpcyclingChallenge for a chance to win weekly prizes that are compliant with their respective international regulations and laws during the challenge.
DO I HAVE TO USE ALL THE ITEMS IN THE KIT?
No. For this challenge you have full creative freedom. We want to encourage you to incorporate as many items from your kit into your journeys posts and story as possible, but you have full creative freedom on what your final project will be. Your finished project can be a garment, accessory, household item, pet accessory etc; but it must be something you sewed together.

KITS ARE LIMITED. Each kit contains fabric, notions, tools and several sewing goodies. Each kit values a little over $60 USD. Kits are free, but interested persons must pay $14.99 flat rate shipping to receive a kit. Heres’ a sneak peek of what’s inside!
