This top was created for restyle Instagram clothes swap, #restylingexchnage2018. The idea to be given a garment by someone else, to upcycle it and return to the original owner in order to highlight the possibilities of refashioning, to rethink our wardrobes in a creative way. Once I unpicked the dress I realised that each panel was relatively small – I did not wish to sew the pieces without pattern matching. I was inspired to make a patchwork fun top using new fabric from my stash, going for big bold pieces. My owner of the dress described their style as whacky, so I trust I have met their brief. Once complete I was disappointed I couldn’t keep the top for myself. The top is self-drafted, responding to the shapes of fabric I had. I used bias binding to finish the hem and neckline.
